Like a Hotel – Patient Comfort Enhanced by Technology

Modern Philips technology enhances patient comfort at Jihlava Hospital.
Until recently, patient rooms at Jihlava Hospital were equipped with TV systems controlled by power switching, where extended viewing time was paid. This approach was uncomfortable and impractical for users, prompting the hospital management to modernize the system.

The hospital’s requirements included a modern, easy-to-use system with high user comfort. Centralized control and digital content management were essential. The system also had to offer long-term performance and flexibility to adapt to new technologies. The expected lifespan of the TVs is 8–10 years, with updatable software.

A public tender was announced, and Philips displays were selected as the winning solution — not only for the best price-performance ratio but also for the range of services, quality support, and professional service.

Patient rooms equipped with modern Philips TVs
All patient rooms were outfitted with modern Philips MediaSuite TVs, running on Android OS with a custom interface for hospitals and hospitality environments.

The system is based on Philips' many years of experience in hotel infotainment. It enables centralized control of all hospital TVs. Because it is Android-based, the administrator has full access to monitor and manage content and the state of the entire display network with ease.

Digital content — such as promotions, messages, or information — can be displayed as custom channels. These channels behave like standard TV programs, and patients can access them using a remote control. The TVs support DVB-T/T2 signals and more. Additionally, each Philips TV can serve as a Wi-Fi access point (hotspot), saving the hospital from purchasing separate network devices for patient internet access.

“Thanks to our cooperation with Philips Professional Display Solutions, our hospital now offers a modern infotainment system for patients and visitors. We're happy to improve their stay this way. One of the greatest advantages of the system is its simple centralized management and content control across the network. It's efficient and cost-effective,” said Mgr. David Zažímal, Head of ICT at Jihlava Hospital.

Professional displays in hospital corridors
Philips Professional Display Solutions didn’t stop at patient rooms. The next phase, now underway, includes installing Philips Digital Signage panels in hospital hallways and waiting areas. These displays, just like the TVs in rooms, are interconnected and centrally managed.
